Our website address is: monicakayne.com I (Monica) am a romance author who writes books, which are sold by bookstores that I link to from this website.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Email address and first name, if you choose to sign up for my newsletter

I use a service called MailerLite to maintain a secure reader email list, which I use to deliver regular author newsletters and book-related bonus content. Your email address and name are not kept on this website, but this is a convenient place to remind you that I will never share your contact information at any time, and every email I send you via MailerLite has an unsubscribe link and a manage preferences link at the bottom of the email.

Analytics

Google Analytics is automatically integrated via Squarespace and tracks your website visit, page clicks and other interactions.

Affiliate Links

Some of the links on this website, including those to Amazon, Apple, Barnes and Noble, Kobo and Google Play, may be affiliate links. Those links track purchase data using cookies, and I receive a small percentage as affiliate income.

As an affiliated associate of these retailers, we may be compensated for purchases you make through this site.

Who we share your data with

Nobody outside of the services I mentioned above. The access that Facebook has via the pixel is covered by Facebook’s privacy policy.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment (which I generally speaking have turned off), the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue. But I find comment moderation a pain, so this currently doesn’t apply.

Email data is also retained indefinitely. If you unsubscribe, that data remains in the MailerLite database, and is covered by their privacy policy. Once you unsubscribe from my list, I cannot do anything with that data, it becomes locked. You have the right to re-subscribe at any time, and that history remains intact.

What rights you have over your data

You have the right to ask me what personal data I have about you, at any time, and to receive a copy of that record. You can request that by emailing me at monica@monicakayne.com. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Newsletter data is managed through MailerLite.
